DEAR BEYOND PANELS WRITER
Feb. 2nd, 2014 01:41 pmHi there. It's nice to meet you, and to know that we share something in common – a love of a particular comic and a particular set of characters. I know I'm late in getting this up – you wouldn't believe the trouble I had getting my signup to save in the first place – so thanks for your patience. Without further ado then...
X-Factor – Rictor/Shatterstar
I love these two crazy kids and their super long, rocky path to true love. I love their ups and downs, their break-ups and make-ups (even if I’ve mostly read between the lines for those), I love the way they learned each other’s languages the better to share confidences in private. I love the way Rictor pretends to be so macho but is truly so sensitive, and I love the way Shatterstar can be so oblivious but always says just the right thing when it’s really needed. Above all, I love the way they’re best friends and partners as well as lovers, and the way they wade into any melee together and always have each other’s backs.
I was lucky enough to receive a great fic for Yuletide that told the tale of their first time, so what I’d really love here is something at the other end – post X-Factor volume 3, post Mojoworld. Where do they go next, what do they do? Do they finally settle down, or do they just keep adventuring through the verses? Do they sort out their relationship to their mutual satisfaction? I don’t mind if you pick up shortly after the comic run ended, or a few years down the track, though I’d definitely like the boys to have stuck together this time.
I ship these guys pretty hard, and if the whim takes you I do enjoy reading explicit sex scenes, though I'm not much for kink. I have no real preferences for sex scenes involving these two – they're so rare that anything would be glorious. If you're uncomfortable with higher ratings, please stick to what you’re comfortable with.
Superman/Batman – Bruce Wayne/Clark Kent
I love the high stakes of superhero relationships. I love “You and me against the world!” romances and partnerships. I love the way superhero couples make each other stronger. I also love the ways, not often explored in the actual comics, that they can make each other weaker, or, no, more vulnerable. I love the way that first and foremost they’re partners and teammates and equals. I really miss the days when Superman and Batman were best friends...
I’d enjoy just about anything here, I think, as long as Clark and Bruce come to realise just how much they mean to each other. I love first times, but I’d be happy with an established relationship too as long as there’s some kind of emotional reveal/upheaval/development.
I ship these guys pretty hard, and if the whim takes you I do enjoy reading explicit sex scenes, though I'm not much for kink. I have a minor preference for Clark on top in sex scenes involving penetration – I love a bit of man-handling and the top using his strength. If you're uncomfortable with higher ratings, please stick to what you’re comfortable with.
Batman – Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Damian Wayne [+ Tim Drake optional]
I love the whole Batfamily, and I love the fact that they are a family. Not a perfect one, and not one where everything runs smoothly, but a family nonetheless, that loves and supports and protects each other. I firmly believe Bruce is a good dad, in all the ways that really count, even if it’s a struggle sometimes. I also believe that the boys all know, deep down, how much he loves them, despite the misunderstandings and despite Bruce’s unwillingness/inability to enunciate his feelings in anything less than the direst of circumstances. (Hey, it’s canon at least sometimes!)
That said, he can be an emotional minefield, and he’s not the only one. The boys can be just as bad, if not worse. There’s so much jealousy, rivalry, and jockeying for position alongside the absolute loyalty they show each other out in the field. Some of them actually think of themselves/each other as brothers, some of them are in denial, some are lying to each other, some are lying to themselves. So that’s what I’m looking for here. Fathers, and sons, and brothers. Relationships and partnerships. We were restricted to four characters, so I left Tim out, but if you want to include him in a story about the whole family that’s totally fine with me. If not the whole family, then I’d love something focused on Bruce and Dick, Bruce and Jason, Dick and Jason, or Dick and Damian. Actually, Jason and Damian could be interesting too, if inspiration struck.
Please keep this story gen if you matched on this prompt, though I don't mind angst or violence if/where appropriate.
Avengers/New Avengers/Avengers Prime – Steve Rogers/Tony Stark
I love the history these two have, all fifty years’ worth. I love the MCU too, not gonna lie, but it’s nothing on the relationship they have in the comics. I love the way they’ve been friends forever, and keep fucking up and breaking up and somehow still getting back together. I love the way that even with time compression and the comics handwave, they’ve canonically been best friends for ten years at this point. It’s that history I’m most interested in, so if you matched on one of these three prompts, please explore that rather than their first meeting/early days together. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t enjoy a first time, I certainly would, but within the wider context of a pre-existing friendship.
I’m not wedded to strict continuity on any of these particular titles – I know it was cheating a little bit to nominate them all, but I wanted to increase the chances of matching overall – so if you’re familiar with more than one I’m happy for a bit of bleed between them. Basically anything within the main Avengers title would be great, though I’d prefer to avoid Civil War this time, not because I can’t take the angst (I love it!) but because it’s the road most travelled for 616 and I’d like something different. If you’re keen on angst then I’d be interested in the potential for disaster in the current run of New Avengers – the inevitable reveal of Steve’s mindwipe and Tony’s complicity in it. (I would like a happy ending if you can swing it!) If, like me, you loved the couple’s counselling roadtrip that was Avengers Prime then I’d love crazy adventures and romance blooming on Asgard.
