So, apparently there is an *actual* freak cold snap hitting Wellington, snow on the Desert Road and all. I feel slightly less faily about the fridge-like state of g/t day 2. :-D

It was so damn cold the other night that house guest [livejournal.com profile] erilyn and I (who had spent the past two nights sleeping the respectful distance of two good friends in a king size bed apart) actually had this conversation:

[livejournal.com profile] erilyn Now that [livejournal.com profile] stickmarionette and [livejournal.com profile] blademistress are gone, I can sleep in the spare bed, and you can have your own back.
[livejournal.com profile] arysteia Um... I think we may have to make like fanfic and conserve body heat.
[livejournal.com profile] erilyn Huddle together for warmth?
[livejournal.com profile] arysteia Uhuh.

An hour later... We're lying that respectful distance apart...

[livejournal.com profile] erilyn SPOON ME!
[livejournal.com profile] arysteia *inches cautiously closer*
[livejournal.com profile] erilyn Seriously.
[livejournal.com profile] arysteia *huddles in, drapes arm lightly*
[livejournal.com profile] arysteia *begins to thaw out, cuddles more tightly*
[livejournal.com profile] erilyn So remember that one fanfic...

Cue an hour and a half of concrit and meta on the best fanfics of the last decade, while close spooning. After which, finally warm and toasty, we drifted off to sleep, visions of sugarplums Clark, Lex, Conner, John, Rodney et al dancing in our heads.

Then, the next day, my builder finally arrived to fix the monstrous languishing WIP that has been my apartment. I left him to it, so I could accompany the Aussies to the airport. Imagine my shock when I returned to find him *vacuuming*! I complimented the work he'd done already, and then there followed this conversation:

Builder: Wow you've got some cool stuff!
[livejournal.com profile] arysteia *embarrassed* *what the hell can he mean???*
Builder: Your dvd collection. All my favourite shows.
[livejournal.com profile] arysteia Huh.
Builder: And your action figures.
[livejournal.com profile] arysteia Glances over at Clark and Lex, who stand a *little* close to each other in the shadow box...
Builder: And your pictures, they're the best.
[livejournal.com profile] arysteia *dies* *what now???*
Builder: I can't believe you've hugged Tealc! And John and Rodney too. That is so cool! Oh, and General Hammond too!!! I love Stargate!
[livejournal.com profile] arysteia Huh. Well you may as well see the rest too, the ones I haven't got around to mounting... *shows*
Builder: This is the best job ever. I will do an awesome job on the bathroom too.
[livejournal.com profile] arysteia *God has smiled on me!* *Geeks of the world unite!* *dances and twirls*

I've mentioned this to some of you before individually, but I'd like to mention it once en masse too.

If you live in Wellington (or if you don't but don't mind travelling) you should think about coming to get/together this year. It's a pan-fandom get together (exactly as stated on the tin), not as big as a full con, and certainly not as crowded/intimidating/noisy/sweaty etc. ;-p

A couple of dozen kiwi fangirls, and usually a handful of Aussies too, get together (there's that phrase again) each year to chew the fat, ogle the hot guys, pimp each other into new fandoms, eat some junkfood, swap some fic or vid recs, commemorate some old fandoms, watch some highlight eps, and play slash pictionary. Always a highlight, that. But nothing scary, dig?

You can dive right in if you're feeling brave (make a presentation, mod a panel), or lurk quietly till you've found the lay of the land. I was nervous once, just once, my very first time (actually [livejournal.com profile] sinpozium in Sydney), but that lasted all of an hour till I realised how cool and friendly everyone was. Or possibly until I had to draw Gollum undercover in a gay bar for pictionary. Come on, you know you want to.

It doesn't matter what your fandom is, as long as you're slash friendly (and if not, how are you still on my flist after all this time?). There have always been a few het OTPs that have snuck in, and a few entirely gen fandoms where people should just watch the damn show.

Check out the comm, the appropriately named [livejournal.com profile] get__together, or at least check out slash pictionary. How can you not be tempted by that???

Right, so it's been established that I'm a little off this week. Or at least didn't twig that thirty days hath September... I knew that, damn it! But the week I've had...

So, yeah. Looks like Friday September 29 to Sunday October 1. And there will indeed be pictionary. Oh, will there be pictionary. But as aforementioned, I'm on hols, so if you'e still in town on Monday, I'm sure there'll still be mischief to be had. ;-p

It's that time of year again. Or at least that time when we start thinking about that time.

That's right. It's [livejournal.com profile] get__together time.

If you came last year, you know what I'm talking about. If not, it's a get together for local slashers. What could be simpler?

But let's spare the rest of my flist... )

If you're coming but you didn't join the comm, go check out the comm! [livejournal.com profile] get__together

Hi, just a note to inform everyone who's coming to Welly in Nov but didn't join the comm that there's an update post over there. Head on over and watch me attempt to be well organised.

I've set up a comm for the thingy. Which now has a name. China and I wracked our brains and came up with get/together. Because it's Not a Con, but it is a get together. And a slash one at that. ;-p

So henceforth all posts will be at [livejournal.com profile] get__together. Note the double underscore - some selfish Russians have the single, despite not using their journal. Grrr arrgh.

The following post is also available there, so head on over and join!

We have our own community. I have informed my loved ones that they have to get out of the house Nov 26/27th. You all appear to be coming. Or trying. This thing is definitely happening now. Resistance is futile.

I'm going to make a call and say that we're going ahead with those dates, since most people said yes, a couple said maybe, and noone said no to it as a possibility. I now need you all to make a call about which day if any you want to include as a third - the Monday or the Friday. It would seem sensible, especially if you're flying in.

I've just had a quick look at the Air New Zealand website, and boy, time difference is a lot more annoying Sydney-Wellington than Wellington-Sydney. Ooh! I've just checked Qantas, and they're considerably cheaper. Bah humbug AirNZ!!! Anyway. If you took Friday off you could get in here in the early afternoon, see a bit of the town, we could all go for dinner and drinks, have an orientation etc, slash away merrily all weekend, and you could fly out crack of dawn Monday and still make it to work on time! (Sadly there are no Sunday night flights. Meh.) But have a look and talk among yourselves, guys.

In the interests of keeping costs down, and also upping the whole slumber party quality, I'm hereby extending an invitation to all the Aussies to bring a sleeping bag and crash at Stately Luthor Manor1. You all seem to know each other pretty well, and it'll be fun. If you'd prefer a hotel room, I can, of course, recommend one.

So. Please join this community, investigate your bookings, and let's start talking turkey. Yaye!!!

1. The name by which my house shall be known here, to protect it from axe-murderers who trawl the internet pretending to be teenage girls when really they are truckers from Arkansas.

Yaye! Thanks for getting back to me so promptly. I'm going to pimp this to a couple of mailing lists locally for people who don't have journals, and please feel free to mention it to any friends of yours that you think would be interested that aren't on my flist. Tell them to either friend me and demand onto the filter, or email me and ask for details.

In the interest of being able to make bookings, various of you have mentioned the need to pick a date asap, and I agree. I discussed it with china_shop today, and the best date for us is the weekend of 26th and 27th November, plus the possibility of the Friday or Monday for anyone who wanted to pull a sicky. That way my senior students have gone, varsity exams are over, etc. Some negotiation may, however, be possible.

I'm recommending since numbers will be small that we do it at my house (known in some circles as Stately Luthor Manor), which has a lot of room, and importantly a mini-cinema. The pretty on the big screen, and a cost saving exercise. Score!

[Poll #552173]

ETA: Obviously I forgot to put a space for you to specify your "other" the second time round. Stick it in a comment. Along with any other questions, comments, or recommendations. :-D

This is a preliminary post to gauge interest, and obviously is not going to be a goer for anyone from the States or Europe, much as I *wish* you guys could come. *sniff*

BUT!

Calling every slasher and lj friend from New Zealand and Australia. Tight Five and EHOF, we want you! And anybody else, of course. :-D

[livejournal.com profile] china_shop and I are very keen to host something, and would like to see as many of you as possible come. Those of you we met at Sinpozium will recall we mentioned something of the sort??? Well we weren't kidding.

We're thinking of November sometime, and it'd just be for the weekend.

The way *my* mind is running at the moment (not set in stone) I'd love to see every attendee present something (not compulsory, obviously, but you're guaranteed a small slot if you want it). Every fandom gets a pimping spot in the first session so we all know who's who, and we'll get into games, ficathons, vid watching and workshop type thingies after that. You don't have to be a writer, enthusiastic *readers* are just as welcome. My aim is to be inclusive, and let everyone play. I figure if we get like-minded individuals in the same space and let nature take its course there should be a lot of fun.

This post is friends locked, and in future I'll be filtering to spare the rest of my flist. Please comment below to get on the filter, express your interest, make a suggestion, etc. If you know anyone else who you think would be interested, please get them to friend me and ask to be put on the filter. That's all folks. Let's lock and load!
